Data Security Regulations

HIPAA legislation in the US mandates that doctors, dentists, insurers and other entities that deal with patient data need to protect that data using physical, electronic and other means. Similar legislation exists in Canada (PIPEDA). These laws apply both to data being transmitted electronically between providers, and to data stored by a provider.

Theft of personal health information is a serious concern in the healthcare industry. Exposing a patient's data can cause irreparable damage to a healthcare provider's reputation and brand, and in severe cases, can result in significant penalties from governmental authorities. RedIron's 2Encrypt protects providers, delivering unmatched data security in a remarkably simple way.

With more and more providers moving to electronic health records, this problem is becoming more acute.

According to the Open Security Foundation, more than 13% of all data breaches occur in the healthcare industry. In 2009 alone, there were 84 incidents of loss or theft of medical data.

According to the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, 52 breaches since 2005 were due to theft of computers that had patient data on them; another 26 were due to lost or stolen hard drives or other equipment. In most of these cases, the data could have been protected by 2Encrypt so that it would not have been visible to anyone trying to view it.

Don't let your practice become a breach of security statistic. 2Encrypt will ensure that all your data is protected against theft and loss, and will do it in a way that is transparent to your practice and requires almost no effort on the part of you or your staff.
